Showing Steers For A Greater Cause at the Iowa State Fair

2022 IOWA GOVERNOR’S CHARITY STEER SHOW – In a joint effort led by lowa’s cattle producers, the Governor of Iowa and many generous donors work together to provide comfort for families of seriously ill children. Proceeds from the steer auction and show go towards financial support of the three Ronald McDonald House Charities of lowa. This show was started by past Iowa Governor Terry Branstad in 1983. This year, the 25 steers that showed and generous donations raised over $436,000.00 for this charity – which is an all-time high for the sale.

One of the exhibitors this year was Kinley Holmes of Ainsworth, Iowa. Kinley’s steer, Rick, was purchased by the Iowa Bankers Association to participate in this event.  Jared Holmes, father of Kinley, said, “An absolute experience…Our family can’t thank everyone enough for all the support!!!! We sold Rick for $46,000 purchased by friends of Kinley and Rick…every penny went to a cause much bigger than any of us. We are so proud of all of our kids (and their tears) and everyone that had our back all year long! With tear filled eyes….THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!”
