SCO Jr. Spotlight

HAPPY MONDAY! This week’s SCO Jr. Spotlight is no stranger to the SCO Family as she and her family hold multiple sales with us each year.
She is from the GREAT state of Texas, this week’s spotlight is Addie Potts the 17-year-old daughter of Adam and Kara Potts.
We recently had the opportunity to visit with Miss. Addie, here is what she had to say…
SCO: What is one moment in the ring that you will never forget?
Addie: I would say my most memorable moment in the ring would have to be from San Antonio last year of 2021 when I showed my Champion ABC. I never thought in a million years I’d be on the end of the halter of an American steer that would be in consideration to get a piece of a major show. When the judge pulled his top 5, my ABC steer, Cody, and I were fortunate enough to be in the mix and I thought my heart was going to stop. I was there showing to win and to leave it all out on the table. It’s a feeling that I will never forget and plan to cherish forever.
SCO: What do you consider your biggest accomplishment as a showman?
Addie: This year at the Arizona Nationals I was selected Reserve Overall Market Steer with a calf we raised. Knowing that my dad raised the calf and got a piece of a national show is something to be proud of in my opinion. I could go on and on about stories Lebron and I had gone through but the best story I could ever tell is the one of our journey to Arizona Nationals. From the long drive to laying over at some random rodeo grounds to walking on concrete the entire time the calf was there crossing our fingers his feet wouldn’t give out by the time we showed. It was God’s blessing to do as good as we did and I will be thankful for years to come for Him giving me the memories we get to cherish.
SCO: Outside of showing what do you enjoy doing?
Addie: One of my biggest passions that I have grown very fond of throughout the years would be livestock judging. I have grown up in the livestock industry my entire life and it will never get old. I could be in the barn every day and would never complain. Judging is just another way to show my passion for livestock and I enjoy getting to travel to the contests with my friends. From giving reasons for 4-H, to looking at feeder cattle for FFA, no matter the type of judging it’s all fun to me. I love the outdoors as well whether it’s hunting, fishing, or doing a little wakeboarding, if it’s part of the great outdoors I’m in!!
SCO: Who was the most influential person in your show career?
Addie: I would have to say my dad is my biggest influence in my show career. Seeing how passionate he is about cattle makes me want to try my hardest every day and give it 110 percent in the barn to make my steers the best they can be. Seeing how much effort he puts into his customers makes me want to be a future leader someday in whatever career path I choose.
SCO: What is your favorite part about helping your family raise cattle?
Addie: My favorite part of our operation would be getting to meet all the amazing people that I have met throughout the years. I love teaching and passing on the knowledge that has been taught to me to the new families that are just getting started. As far as the livestock part, calving season is always the best, it’s like hunting Easter eggs on easter but with far greater reward.
SCO: What is the one barn chore you dislike doing?
Addie: Well I would have to say cleaning the barn would probably be my least favorite. Last year during the snowstorm I forgot to dump the poop wagon before the snow hit like I had been asked to (multiple times) and then because I forgot to do as I was asked I had to push them through the 2 feet of snow and my Airpods fell out of my pocket while doing this. I can’t tell you how long I looked for them digging through all the snow where I thought they might have fallen out and I was about to give up when the end of my poop fork picked them up in the pile of poop I had just dumped out. After that experience, I have paid real close attention to not forgetting to do something when your parents tell you to, especially before a snowstorm.
SCO: What was your favorite show? Why?
Addie: I would have to say San Antonio would be my favorite show for many reasons. For one I have received two big scholarships from there, which will be a huge benefit for college, and two I have won the most banners from there.
SCO: What is one thing people would never guess about you?
Addie: One thing people would never guess about me is that I absolutely love brahman cattle. There is just something about those big floppy ears and headstrong personalities that gets the best of me.
SCO: If you could have one superpower, what would it be? Why?
Addie: My superpower would be, to be able to be in more than one place at one time. If I could be at a show, home, and school it would make things a lot easier. I wouldn’t get behind on school, the steers at home would be tended to, and I could go have fun at a show.
SCO: If you could accomplish one thing before your show career is over, what would it be?
Addie: If I could accomplish one thing before I finished showing next year it would be to get a piece of a TX major and win showmanship at a national show.
Best of luck in all that you do! The SCO Team is always in your corner.
