John Robert Townsley, 93, of Xenia, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2022, at his residence. He was born August 22, 1928, in Cedarville, Ohio, the son of Fred McMillan and Rachel Tarbox Townsley. John was a graduate of Cedarville High School and Cedarville College and graduated with a degree in Education. He earned a Master’s degree in Administration from Miami University. He taught and coached at Conneaut and Farmersville, OH schools before he came to Beavercreek in 1957 to teach and coach. He retired in 1984 after serving as principal at Beavercreek High School for 22 years. He was an active member of Xenia United Presbyterian Church, and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Millicent (Jacobs) Townsley, a son, John Michael (Jane) Townsley, a daughter, Suzanne Townsley (Jeff) Winkle, grandchildren, Scott (Katie Cull) Winkle, Eric (Cara) Winkle, Kelsey Winkle, John Townsley, Jacqueline (Zach Tarlow), and Stuart Townsley, great-grandchildren, Bowen Winkle and Kade Winkle, by numerous nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his sisters, Mary Jean (Howard) Townsley Swaim and Doris Townsley (John) Saunders. John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Services will be held at 10am, Wednesday, April 13, at Xenia United Presbyterian Church, 343 W. Ankeney Mill Rd., Xenia, with Rev. Kevin Murphy officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Tuesday at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Burial will be in Massies Creek Cemetery, Cedarville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Xenia United Presbyterian Church or to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH, 45420, in his memory.
