Tip from Ambassador Bob May: The best way to plan for an upcoming show is to be strategic before livestock are even purchased.
“When I help my kids select their next show project, we keep these 3 points in mind:
- The animal must be structurally sound.
- Genetics help predict performance. We want a sire with predictability to produce a good-looking calf that has a high likelihood of being a champion steer.
- Know your target show and what your priorities are. Selecting for prospects can be different than for a market show.”
