The Donald R. Hankins Memorial Scholarship application is now open!
Donald Hankins was a lifelong cattleman and supporter of youth in agriculture. For many years he was one of the top Agriculture Instructors/ FFA Advisors for the State of Missouri. In 2004 Don and Braunvieh Breeder, Larry Lane, found a heifer, Miss LLB N52, for one of Don’s students to show. This heifer was the foundation of Don’s Braunvieh herd. Through the years he, his students and grandchildren have had much success on the state and national level showing Braunvieh cattle. While the success in the show ring was rewarding, Don’s true passion was working with Juniors. He knew to have a growing breed there had to be a large junior base. He used his vast knowledge of the beef industry, breeding and nutrition to help anyone who asked. Those who knew Don knew he wanted all juniors to have fun, learn and achieve success. Don helped organize and run several Junior Nationals and started the Junior Show at the American Royal. His family started the Don Hankins Memorial Scholarship in hopes of continuing his tradition of supporting Juniors in the JBAA.
