When it comes to fitting Brangus and Red Brangus cattle, every detail matters. For the most part, fitting Brangus is no different than fitting any other breed, though with less hair, there are a few key things to keep in mind. With their slicker hair coats, blending becomes more important than building, especially around the tail head and top line. We advise to keep adhesives minimal, as spraying too much adhesive on an area will make it more difficult to clip and shape.

Once you have added adhesive and powder, as well as clipped the legs, top and belly, it is time to get back to the calf’s natural, desired color. Keep in mind that painting an animal does take time, both for application and drying before adding more. The animal’s paint job should be checked after leaving the fitting area, as you may need to add more due to different lighting or areas that become more visible when the animal is in motion.
See the list below for a lineup of our recommended paint products.
• Sullivan’s Jet Black
• Sullivan’s Black Finisher
• Sullivan’s Black Out
• For Red Brangus, see our lineup of Red Paints: Fawn, Hazel, Copper, Brick, Red Velvet, Cinnamon & Dark Crimson
After your animal is fit, it’s critical that you then work the animal’s body hair with a blower, plastic comb, and a show sheen or oil. This will pull the animal’s entire look together from nose to tail, ensuring they’re show-ring ready.
See the list below for a lineup of our recommended finishing touches before heading to the ring.
• Sullivan’s Smart Comb
• Sullivan’s Kleen Sheen
• Sullivan’s Flair
