Check out our interview with 2019 Best of the Barns Photographer of the year, Linde Sutherly.

How did you get your start in photography?
I really liked showing cattle growing up, and I honestly just fell into taking pictures. A tiny show in Moundsville, WV was one of the first shows I photographed and the first large show I covered was the Eastern National Livestock Show. I will never forget those folks who gave me the opportunity to pursue my dreams, as none of my success would be had it not been for those people giving me a chance. I thank God that He opened doors to guide me in His will for my life.

When did you establish Linde’s Livestock Photos, and what made you want to make it into a business?
2001, at a time when the technology was just coming into the digital world and there were not many other people taking cattle show pictures in the Midwest.

What is your favorite thing about livestock photography
I truly enjoy having the opportunity to work with such great people at shows with the same love for the industry. Capturing those moments that people have worked for years to achieve is not something I take lightly. It’s not just about getting a fabulous backdrop photo for every exhibitor. Our team is committed to providing outstanding service with a great attitude and having that show through every photo. I am so blessed to have a wonderful team of ladies with the same passion.

On average, how many shows a year do you cover?
20 shows

Do you have a favorite show you like to shoot?
NAILE

Do you enjoy ring shots or back drops more?
That’s a tough one. I love backdrops, but ring shots allow for creativity and are fun to capture.

How big is your team at Linde’s Livestock Photos?
Well, it depends from show to show. At NAILE, about a dozen, but smaller shows, just one or two. Linde’s has the best team in the country, although I may be biased. I do have the most incredibly talented ladies in the industry on our team and I call them true friends, many of them have been a part of our team for many, many years. But they welcome newer team members with open arms, right into our family, and that is the way I look at my team, a family.
