The Life of Jim Reid
James “Jim” Clark Reid
April 15, 1955 – July 30, 2024
Jim Reid, who lived a Godly life, went to be with the Lord on the evening of Tuesday, July 30, 2024. After a good day at work, a homemade meal shared with his family and a chocolate chip cookie, he died suddenly and peacefully of natural causes on the front porch of his home overlooking his beautiful yard, which he loved, as the sun was setting.
Jim was born on April 15, 1955 in Denver, Colorado. Sports were his world. He was competitive in all fields but focused most on football and baseball. He attended George Washington High School where it was obvious from day one his venture in sports would extend well past four years. He was an all-star pitcher and standout on the gridiron. As his high school career came to an end in 1973, Jim received multiple full ride offers to play in college including one from the famous Nebraska coach, Tom Osborne.
Following high school, Jim attended and played for Colorado State University under head coach Sarkis Arslanian. The former Washington High School football star became the starting offensive left guard after redshirting for one year. His talent landed him into multiple newspaper clippings and a successful college career. Jim was an assistant coach and recruiter for the Rams following his playing years in Fort Collins.
After his time at Colorado State, Jim worked as a racquetball pro at the Denver Athletic Club. While there, he gave lessons to the likes of John Denver and was even a bodyguard for Muhammad Ali and Lyle Alzado at a charity boxing match. One of the individuals he gave racquetball lessons to was an executive for an oil company who offered Jim a job.
While working in the oil field for the Western Company, he met Betty Case. In 1984, they were married and one year later they started Cover-All Services, Inc – an oil field service company.
When Jim and Betty started their family, their biggest priority was to raise their kids in a Christian home. Together they had three children, Brian (38), Laurie (34) and Lisa (32).
Jim lived a full life. He coached little league, played competitive open racquetball (he and Betty were the State A/Open Champions in Doubles and he held many Singles titles for multiple years) and helped his kids work 4-H projects including cattle, hogs, sheep and goats. His family worked together as a team to achieve Grand Champion titles with Steers in 2004, 2007 and 2010, with goats in 2003 and Reserve Steer in 2009 at the Colorado State Fair. In the 90’s, Cover-All expanded to include a sign and banner company that is still going strong. When his children started a national livestock publication, The Showtimes, in 2007, he was a vital part of the company. He traveled to shows, made banners and was their number one supporter. He has always done anything he could to help his family.
Jim loved God and he kept Him a part of his life every day. He, along with his wife Betty, prioritized a solid Christian foundation into their family. While he was taken far too soon, his family has peace knowing he is with his Lord and Savior and that they will see him again one day.
The funeral service for Jim will be this Monday, August 5th at 11:00am at the Chapel Hill Church of the Nazarene in Brighton, CO. Following the service will be a hamburger bbq in honor of his favorite meal.
