Reflecting On An Unforgettable Summer – Emma Day, Marketing Intern

This summer, I had the opportunity of a lifetime interning for Sullivan Supply, and I’ll carry the memories and lessons with me forever! From the moment I started, I felt supported, trusted, and welcomed like I had been there for years. No two days were the same, but that’s what made it exciting. Whether I was taking pictures of livestock, capturing candid moments, setting up Stock Show University Clinics, or helping gather pedigree information, I was constantly learning something new.

Traveling across the country—from Kentucky to Oklahoma to South Dakota—showed me how vast and connected the livestock industry really is. It’s not just about animals. It’s about people; families and lifelong friendships. One moment that stuck with me was at the Simmental Junior Nationals, when I watched Bret Pembrook win Grand Champion Simmental Heifer and not only did he cry tears of joy- but so did so many friends and family that supported him along the way. It reminded me that this industry brings people together in the most powerful ways.

What stood out the most was how much trust Sullivan Supply gave me. They provided me with equipment, answered all my questions, and encouraged me to grow—even when things were overwhelming. At my very first Junior National show, I was met with kindness and reassurance from team members like Cody Couch and Emma Violet. Their support helped me believe in myself which carried me throughout the remainder of the summer.

The work wasn’t always easy. I had to get comfortable with last-minute changes, chaotic moments, and new challenges. But those curveballs helped me grow in ways I never expected. I learned the importance of communication, flexibility, and staying confident under pressure. One of my proudest moments was photographing the South Dakota Summer Spotlight with another intern—completely on our own. When I received a message saying “Nice Pictures” from management- I knew my hard work from all summer had paid off.

Sullivan Supply taught me more than just marketing and photography. It taught me the value of teamwork, strong mentorship, and believing in yourself. To anyone considering this internship: do it. Take the leap. Be bold and especially willing to grow. I applied on a whim, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

I’m forever grateful to Sullivan Supply for giving me this experience—one that combined travel, learning, and community in the best way. I will never forget my summer on the road.
