Donate to Brandt Downing

Hello everyone, on June 13th Brandt Downing, previous NJHA Board Member, was in a serious car accident. After a quick life flight trip to KU Med in Kansas City, a few X-Rays, MRIs, and CTs we found broken legs, fractures in his skull, ear, C2 vertebrae and hip, along with a small brain bleed.

Surgery #1 took place mainly on his left leg, during which his blood pressure decided to take a spike. Serious monitoring of our dear pal continued as well as more tests and two more surgeries on his legs. In between all of the “fun” he commenced physical therapy and enjoyed the visitors who came by during the day. Lots of thumbs up, smiles and a few ornery comments were received and that bull headed guy continued to work hard to be on the mend.

Fast forward and we are now in the rehab sector of KU Med for what has now been a little over a week. Visitors have continued to come by, including “Rip”, thanks Cole and Allyson; luckily the rehab facility allows dogs to visit. Come Friday he will be discharged to outpatient but will be staying close and continue to visit the folks at KU Med for continued PT and a few more surgeries.

The road is long and a bit bumpy but the support is second to none. There are no words to describe the thankfulness of all of the thoughts, prayers, texts, calls, visits and much more. It has helped that strong willed guy of ours be on the mend that much sooner.

Unfortunately, the medical bills, life flight and rehab costs are growing. The hope is that this page will help the family focus more on Brandt than the financial burden. Any help is greatly appreciated, and please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you!
