Best of the Barns Show Mom of the Year – Emily Schaeffer

In the world of stock shows, where early mornings meet high-stake show rings, and dirty boots tell stories of perseverance, there exists a rare kind of mother. One who doesn’t just show up, but shows the way. For the Schaeffer family and their extended “show family,” that woman is Emily Schaeffer, a mother who has earned the highest recognition in the livestock industry, Sullivan Supply’s Best of the Barn Show Mom of the Year.

Emily’s win of this prestigious award is more than a testament to her deep commitment to the show ring, it’s a reflection of her unwavering dedication, her compassion for others, and her unyielding drive to see everyone around her succeed. As Tim, her husband, puts it: “She truly finds a way to make a 24-hour day feel like a 60-hour day. It’s organized chaos, but her competitive spirit drives it all.”

From coordinating showmanship outfits to ensuring every kid in the barn feels supported, Emily stands at the heart of their operation. “You know who’s in charge,” Tim laughs when describing a typical show day. “She leads the pack, making sure the exhibitors are ready, on time, and locked in for the day.”

But Emily’s real magic lies in her heart. She’s more than a mom to her two boys, she’s “everyone’s greatest cheerleader ringside,” says friend Nate Tice. “She’s there to celebrate the highs, and just as importantly, to guide through the learning moments.” She brings the same passion and enthusiasm she’s known for in the show barn into everything she does, whether it’s helping kids practice for a show or coaching teachers at her “real job” as a school superintendent.

One of the clearest reflections of Emily Schaeffer’s character comes from those who’ve worked with her. Nate Tice remembers many moments—some he jokes are better left unshared, but one in particular stands out.

“My favorite picture is of Bray and her coming out of the ring at the Hoosier Beef Congress,” he says. “That photo shows more about her drive and focus than anything else.”

Behind the scenes, Emily is the rock that holds everything together. While balancing her demanding career with the constant bustle of livestock prepping and show circuits, Emily ensures that nothing is overlooked. “She knows the value of the true work being done at home,” Tim explains. “She makes sure that work is fulfilled so that come show day, our operation can go off without a glitch.”

One of Tim’s most unforgettable memories of Emily was during a show in Louisville. He watched as she poured her energy and intensity into encouraging Braylen while he showed his heifer. “She gives 110% every time, her passion, her drive, her commitment, it’s just who she is.”

This drive is something she instills in her kids, as well as every other young exhibitor in the barn. “There are no off days,” Tim says. “She teaches them to give 110% because other people have dedicated their time to help with these projects, and you owe it to them to put in the same effort.”

Winning Sullivan Supply’s Best of the Barn Show Mom of the Year was not just a recognition of her hard work—it was a testament to her selfless devotion to the show community and her never-ending drive to push her family and show families to achieve greatness.

Emily Schaeffer doesn’t just raise champions, she builds them. Whether it’s guiding her own children to victory or cheering on others, she has always made sure that every exhibitor, every parent, and every child in the show barn feels supported, encouraged, and empowered.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate Emily Schaeffer, the mom who leads with strength, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to her family, her friends, and the entire livestock community. Emily, you are truly the Best of the Barn.
