Best of the Barn Awards | Best Sheep Showman- Preslie Strader

Preslie Strader has been named the 2024 Best Sheep Showman in the Best of the Barns Awards. When asked to describe her show season in one word, she chose “grateful.” “Not only was I able to hang banners at the state and national level, but I was able to do it with some of my best friends and family by my side,” she said.

Raising sheep has taught Preslie many important life lessons. “My animals come before me,” she explained. “They’re the first thing that needs taken care of in the morning and the last thing at night.” She has learned responsibility, patience, and the importance of hard work. For her, the livestock lifestyle is more than showing—it’s a way of building character and learning to manage everything from animals to academics.

Preslie’s passion for showing shines through in her preparation. At home, she practices in front of a mirror to fine-tune her stance and positioning. “Seeing it for myself really helps,” she said. She’s known for being consistent and putting in the work daily, even when it’s tough. Her tip for others is simple but powerful: “Stay consistent and you will see success.” Whether it’s fitting sheep legs or handling animals with care, her work ethic sets her apart.

Her most memorable show experience was winning the Missouri State Fair in 2022—a longtime dream come true. She also made waves in 2024 by earning 4th Overall Commercial Ewe at NAILE and Reserve Champion Market Lamb at the Missouri State Fair. Among her favorite animals is a wether she got from Dakota Quickle. “He was a diva,” she laughed. “But I couldn’t part with him—he still lives at home and gets all the attention.”

Beyond the show ring, Preslie is excited for what’s ahead. She plans to graduate from nursing school, become an injectable nurse, and open her own medical spa—all while continuing to grow her boutique, Midwest Maverick. Even more, she looks forward to becoming a mentor. “I’m excited to become the person outside the ring, helping and watching the younger showman accomplish their goals,” she said. Giving back to the next generation is a role she’s ready for.

Congratulations to Preslie Strader on being named the 2024 Best Sheep Showman—a title that reflects not only her talent but her heart, humility, and determination. As she steps into her next chapter, we know she’ll keep inspiring others, whether it’s in the barn or in her future career. With her drive and kindness, she’s sure to make a lasting impact. The future is bright, and we’ll be cheering her on every step of the way.
