Megan Blankenship, Owner of Next Level Images created her thriving business in 2019. Megan had many years of working as a livestock photographer for other companies within the industry. In those early years, she equipped herself with experience, perspective, and skill. Through those years, she learned a lot about being an employee to a photographer, what works in the industry, and more importantly- what doesn’t. These simple skills have allowed her to flourish as one of the most recognized livestock photographers today.
Growing up in West Burlington, New York, Megan had been involved in the livestock industry throughout her whole upbringing. She grew up as the 5th generation of her family’s farm in upstate NY and was actively involved in the day to day operations of the farm. As it transitioned from commercial to purebred cattle, she fell in love with the show aspect when she was 10 years old. She has never lost that drive and passion. Later on, she began photographing her first show 16 years ago and soon after- made it her full time profession.
Megan’s advice for young photographers or any young person is to “figure out what you love and find a way to make a career out of it” She said “You’ll be happier and do your best work when you are truly passionate about what you do.” Megan went on to say that she is always grateful and feels endlessly blessed to wake up and do what she loves. Megan hopes that any young photographer would also find a mentor that you admire. “This industry has so many wonderful people and the connections you make, the people you have in your circle will elevate you, push you, support you and bring so much more joy in life … Making mistakes is part of it, don’t be discouraged and don’t ever be afraid to ask questions. We all start from the same place. She encouraged.
Next Level Images is made possible through a large plethora of people, but Megan took the time to explain a special thank you to her family- “My husband, Matthew is a huge part of Next Level. From being a never ending support system, listening to all my ideas, helping at the backdrop or even taking the occasional photo.” She said “Our kids, Adalynn & Aksel, are both getting more and more involved with helping at backdrops and picking up cameras too!”
Megan shared that she could never begin to thank all of the people who played a role in Next Level Images success. She credits this award to each of the photographers on her team who help capture priceless memories for everyone at each event they attend. “The Next Level goal has always been to provide livestock photography that focuses on a combination of high end marketing materials achieved by a deep understanding of the species being photographed and the creation of candids that really capture a moment for those being photographed.” She said. They are firm believers that every animal is unique and must be captured uniquely. “We work hard to create connections and positive experiences for everyone (that) we are blessed to meet along the way. There’s not a better crew to work with and not a better industry to be a part of!”
