MHBA | Meet the Judge

Welcome John Chism as a judge for this year’s Miniature Hereford Junior Nationals in Lubbock, Texas!
John Chism has spent a lifetime immersed in the livestock industry, with experience spanning every corner of the cattle world—from the show ring and sale ring to the pasture and the rail. His judging resume includes shows at the local, state, and national level, with highlights such as the Charolais Junior National Show and one of the first bull shows in the newly renovated National Western Yards in Denver.
As an exhibitor, John has shown cattle at some of the most prestigious events in the country, including NAILE, National Western, American Royal, Houston, Fort Worth, and numerous state fairs.
In his role as Director of the Livestock Division at the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, John works alongside junior exhibitors and their families, facilitating youth shows at NAILE, the Kentucky State Fair, Kentucky Beef Expo, and countless other events. His commitment to youth development is driven by his understanding that young people are the future of our industry.
John also serves as a Beef and Dairy Breed Superintendent at NAILE, helping purebred producers gain national exposure through one of the largest and most respected livestock marketing platforms in the world.
John and Marsha reside on their sixth-generation family farm in Winchester, Kentucky, where they continue to raise registered seed stock cattle.
Please join us in welcoming Judge John Chism to the MHJN! We are incredibly grateful to have someone of his experience, passion, and dedication in the ring with our youth this year.
