Best of the Barns – Best Cattle Operation

RJ Cattle Co. is owned and operated by Ryan and Samantha Johnson of Mitchell, South Dakota. They run a first-class operation from top to bottom, emphasizing helping junior exhibitors at ALL LEVELS excel both in and out of the show ring. 2023 was a big year for RJ Cattle Company, including the 2023 Supreme Champion Heifer at NAILE and the American Royal! They also received the blessing of a new addition to the family in September, Rhett Johnson. As this family and cattle company grows we are so proud and excited to congratulate them on 2023 Best of the Barns, Best Cattle Operation. 

Early on in the year, RJ Cattle Company started off strong down in Texas.

At Fort Worth, they accomplished the task of having the Reserve Champion European Cross Steer and the Reserve Angus Steer. Congratulations to Laynee Campbell and Layton McMurphy. Having a division reserve winner at the Superbowl of Steer shows is no easy task. We commend the hard work of RJ Cattle Company on pushing good stock to even higher-quality kids.

Next in the lineup staying down south, they had the Grand Champion Steer at RODEO AUSTIN! The Wall Family of Texas deserves congratulations for this win. This calf, sold on SC by RJ Cattle Co, has kicked off the season with a bang. Since its establishment, this company has consistently produced winners year in and year out.

Congratulations to Sara Sullivan on this monumental win and the loving hands that gave her this female. It’s been an exciting run for Sara Sullivan and the Sullivan Farms crew! Lizzo (Pictured Above) was crowned Supreme Champion Junior Female at the 2023 American Royal and Champion Percentage Simmental Female in the Open & Junior Shows at the 2023 North American International Livestock Exposition!

Lizzo’s dam, K&J Proven Queen 259, was raised by K&J Angus but sold by RJ Cattle Company. It has been exhilarating to watch so many succeed because of RJ Cattle, which has a track record of being driven to succeed year after year. Cattle companies like yours make our industry ever-evolving and always improving.
