2025 Best Goat Showman – Harper Hess | Best of the Barn Awards

Harper Hess of Illinois has built an impressive show career through hard work, determination, and a commitment to constantly improve. At just 16 years old, Harper has spent six years in the goat industry, earning major accomplishments in and out of the show ring. She has developed a reputation as a talented showman and dedicated livestock enthusiast.

Over the years, Harper has dedicated herself fully to the livestock industry, even making sacrifices to create more time for her show goats and goals. That dedication paid off during an outstanding 2025 show season. “It was such a big achievement,” Harper exclaimed. “I got to see a lot of hard work pay off.”

2025 was filled with milestones that many young exhibitors dream about. Harper accomplished one of her biggest goals by winning showmanship at multiple national shows like the American Royal, Louisville, and the ABGA Junior National Show. She also exhibited the Grand Champion Market Goat at the 2025 ABGA Junior National and Grand Champion Wether Dam at the Ohio State Fair.

While livestock quality plays a major role in success, she believes showmanship is one of the few things exhibitors can truly control. “I’ve always tried to have the best goats in my barn, but showmanship is one of the biggest things you can control,” Harper said. “Your animal might not cooperate, and things might not go your way, but the work and time you put into becoming a better showman is something that belongs to you.” When asked what advice she would give to aspiring showmen, Harper emphasized the importance of finding mentors and learning from those who have found success.

Congratulations to Harper Hess on being named the 2025 Best Goat Showman—a well-earned title for someone who has worked so hard and led with passion. As she takes the next steps in the livestock industry, we wish her nothing but success. With her drive, confidence, and love for the show ring, there’s no doubt Harper will keep making an impact. The future is bright, and we can’t wait to see where it takes her.
