The 2024 Junior National Hereford Expo was more than just a cattle show — it was a week full of fun, learning, and friendships made for the juniors. Held in Grand Island, Nebraska, and celebrating its 25th anniversary, JNHE welcomed hundreds of Hereford youth from across the country. With the theme “The Grand Daddy of ’Em All,” this year’s show lived up to the name by offering a week packed with activities designed just for kids. From the moment they arrived, juniors could feel the excitement in the air — from unloading cattle to decorating stalls and participating in team spirit competitions.
What sets JNHE apart is how it focuses on helping kids grow both inside and outside the show ring. The week included contests like showmanship, livestock judging, speech, sales, and even a photo contest — giving every kid a chance to shine no matter their interest. Juniors also got to connect through fun events like the tailgate party, movie night, and mentoring programs like “Pen-to-Pen,” where older members help guide first-timers through the experience. These events are not only fun but help kids build confidence, friendships, and skills they can use far beyond the barn.
This remarkable event would not be possible without the visionary leadership of Amy Cowan, Director of Youth Activities and Foundation, and her exceptional team. For many years, Amy has been a driving force behind the growth, excellence, and prestige of this event—shaping it into one of the most celebrated gatherings in the industry.
With the support of sponsors, volunteers, and the National Junior Hereford Association, the entire week is built around creating the best possible experience for the kids. They are celebrated not only for their hard work but also for their passion, sportsmanship, and leadership. It’s no surprise that JNHE was voted the 2024 Best of the Barns: Best Junior National Experience. For many kids, JNHE isn’t just a summer show — it’s the highlight of the year and a place where memories are made to last a lifetime.
