2018 Best of the Barns Best Livestock Operation | Hoffman Ranch

After wrapping up another American Royal, we’d like to highlight a  livestock operation that is a big time player in the cattle industry. The 2018 Best of the Barns Best Purebred Operation winner, Hoffman Ranch had some major success this weekend after taking home the title of Grand Champion Hereford Bull with H Montgomery 7437 ET.

Just like any successful business or operation, it begins with an idea followed by passion and a goal to make it successful for the years to come through hard and good times.

“Denny Hoffman, the patriarch, began his journey in the 1950s with a 4-H project in Redmond, Oregon, said Kayce, Jason’s wife. “Denny and Dixie purchased their first ranch in McArthur, CA and Denny worked his way up the ranks to get where we are today.”

Upon graduating from college Jason moved home from Kansas State University to enhanced his family’s herd. To be able to mass-produce high-quality cattle has been through embryo transfer which has helped us grow our herd, she said.

“We relocated to Thedford, NE to get more central and live in God’s own cow country, Kayce said. “The growth has been a family effort with each person working together to reach our common goal.”

“Hoffman Ranch started very small and conservative in McArthur, CA running about 150 head of Herefords, said Kayce. “After we relocated to Nebraska we have expanded our herd to Hereford, Angus, and SimAngus, running over 1000 head of cattle along with having two sales a year. Our female sale is the last Monday in September and the bull sale is the third Friday in February.”

We never had any idea that our operation would be grown as quickly as it has. We have taken advantage of every opportunity that has come our way and have truly been blessed by relocating to the Nebraska Sandhills, she said.

“Denny and Jason were born with a passion to do this and they don’t know anything else, said Kayce. “I truly believe God has put them on this earth to be cowmen.”

“We are excited to raise our kids in the cattle business and watch them grow into responsible, hardworking young adults who have knowledge in the ranching business,” said Kayce. At this present time, we significantly have the best staff we have ever had and excited to see what we can do as a team in the future.”

“It was quite an honor to have that many votes throughout the industry. We were amazed that that many people even knew who Hoffman Ranch is, said Kayce. “The youth involved in agriculture is more important than ever and we hope we can have a positive influence on their being as they become adults. We hope we treat people the way we have been treated throughout the years.”
