Junior National Hereford Expo | Exhibitor Spotlight

Our exhibitor spotlight for the 2018 Junior National Hereford Expo is Chase Harker of Hope, Indiana.

Where was your first junior national?
The first one I ever went to was in Indy, and the first one I ever showed at was in Kansas City, Missouri.

Which one has been your favorite?
Last year, in 2017, when it was in Louisville because me and my brother won the steer show and I will forever cherish that memory with my family.

What’s your favorite thing about Junior Nationals?
Showing in showmanship, spending time with friends, getting into trouble sometimes…actually all the time, fitting, and getting to learn from my role models in life. I do not like the ride to the show. The fun and all the friends that I make and getting in trouble are my favorites. I love to play pranks on people too. The biggest prank I’ve ever played on anyone was putting cherry coke, mulch, and peanuts in someone’s blower.

What other hobbies do you have?
I used to show sheep and now I play basketball and run track. I have been playing basketball for 2 years and running track for 3 years.

What’s your favorite memory?
This is so hard. I would have to say winning the steer show at JNHE last year and state fair and winning junior showmanship earlier this week at the JNHE.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I would like to career in political science and one day run for president. If I get that then after I hope that I will have a cow-calf operation with show cattle.

Who is your role model?
My biggest role model would have to be my parents, and the people that work for us as our interns, Burk Van Horn. They have helped me with my showmanship skills, showing, and help me learn more about cattle which will better me in the future.
